Peak District

We visited the Peak District in July 2012 for our Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition. We walked for an average of nine hours a day for four days, covering 80km in total, while carrying two-and-a-half-stone rucksacks!

For our project we decided to study the weather over the course of the expedition and compare it with the forecasted weather. We used a thermometer keyring to measure the daily temperature at regular intervals and a measuring cylinder to measure the rainfall at night, as well as taking photos of the weather conditions.

Rather unfortunately for us, it rained for three out of four days, but we managed to keep our spirits up, even when a slug fell off the very wet tent into one of our cooking pots...

Foxgloves on the side of a hill on the only sunny day that we had.

Interesting gravel slippage on the side of a hill.

Decades ago these flagstone paths were laid on top of some of the moors.

We were greeted by this depressing sight on exiting the tent in the morning!
