Why Geography?

Why choose Geography?

Geography is fascinating! It can be eye-opening and awe-inspiring to learn about our world and everything in it.

Geography gives you a huge number of transferable skills. It teaches you to analyse, explore, evaluate, and investigate, as well as honing your essay-writing and experimental skills.

It also has the lowest university drop-out rate of any subject.

Geography is relevant to everything! As it's the study of the world in which we live, everything you learn adds to your general knowledge. People who study geography are better prepared to understand topics impacting our planet such as climate change, global warming, desertification, water resource issues, and an almost endless list of others.

It's one of the 'facilitating' or 'hard' subject choices, which means it's respected by universities and employers.

Famous geographers include Prince William, basketball great Michael Jordan, Charles Darwin's co-author Alfred Russel Wallace, and Anita Roddick, who founded The Body Shop. A Red Arrows pilot and the drummer of the Kaiser Chiefs also studied geography!

As well as everything else, it's so varied that you know you'll find something you're really interested in, whether it's globalisation or glacier retreat!
